Euro Tour 2006 - Day 5

Day 5
Time to head home!
Flight leaves at 10:55 local back to Amsterdam.
Nothing to note on this flight...
A little layover in Amsterdam allowed me to get the Pig-in-the-blanket that I had eyed on the way out.
I did some calculation to determine that to avoid jet lag, I should not sleep on any flights this day to be sure to get some sleep in the Eastern Time Zone.
So, back on the plane from Amsterdam to Detroit.
When the flight attendant walked by to give us our customs forms the young man next to me had been in the bathroom, and she asked me whether he was a US citizen or not, and I responded that I hadn't really spoken with him.  She seemed bewildered that I hadn't even asked what I now understand is obligatory "where are you from?  Where are you headed, and why?".
You see, it turns out I am apallingly anti-social, and the flight attendant couldn't hardly believe it.
Anyways, he comes back, and I proceed to watch my marathon of movies to avoid interaction, and sleeping.
I saw: Derailed (Not to shabby), Harry Potter 4 (Not my favorite of the series, although not bad), and Two for the Money (Decent, but couldn't get past Hick/New Yorker connection not making sense).
The plane landed 35 minutes ahead of schedule, so we ended up waiting on the runway for 15 minutes before being allowed into a gate.
Arrival in Detroit was standard, and I get to use my Nextel again, so I feel at home already!
After a quick meal in the airport, I re-calculated the sleeping thing, and realized my error.
You see, staying up for all the flights meant I would be awake for 20 hours straight.
It is not that great a feat, but doing so while waiting, and sitting all day is much more difficult than I imagined.
One flight left!  DTW/GRR was extremely difficult to stay awake, even though it is only 35 minutes long.
All went well, and it is always good to be back in our little GRR with 9 gates, and only 4 that ever get used.
