New Baby, New Software
I have to get back to work on the Infant Log 2006 software before Baby #2 arrives.
I have some cool improvements that I would like to include, but probably won't have time to add...
- I really never finished the ability to enter an amount to a task (i.e.: bottle amounts, medicine amounts, etc.)
- I would love to have a web version of the software to prevent the problem with maintaining/synchronizing separate databases for when we are out and logging on the laptop, or even just logging from another room. A web version would be slower, but I think it would make things easier to use, and maybe even good for distribution. The hospital now has wireless access, so that might be cool...
- The reporting side of the program is severely lacking. With a second child, it would be great to be able to compare the two charts of the babies. I would like to see a quick chart of total diapers changed/diapers per month/Mom vs. Dad diapers/average sleep time per day chart (I could go on forever on this...). The nice thing about logging Eva's first 6 months is that the data is available, I just have to find an intelligent way to report that data.
- A lot of little things that make the software more like a home-made program than a professional software package. A short list: Overflow error when you open the program after not logging for a couple of days, No option to add a new baby, or track multiples, The UI is downright ugly, and could use a lot of redesign, No ability to change the shortcut keys without access to the database.
Well, that is the short list and I won't likely get any of that done either, but it helps to write it down.
My wife thinks I am the coolest guy in the world for writing the software, even if it sucks, so I can feel alright about that ;)
