TiVo I love you so...
I just purchased the third hard drive in a month.
Last week our trusty TiVo SVR2000 started stuttering, and locking up.
We got the unit ~5 years ago, and it's not a surprise that the original hard drive was on its way out.
The box has a lifetime subscription, which you can't even get anymore, so it is worth a lot to us.
I had upgraded from 30GB to 70GB by adding a drive when it was a year old, so I am not new to the TiVo upgrading.
I picked up a 160GB hard drive from Circuit City this weekend, for $40 after rebates.
We have a lot of programs that we have saved forever, so I really wanted to save them if possible.
To do that, I had to copy the full contents using a Linux boot disk, which can take hours.
My first attempt failed after 10 hours of copying. :(
I tried again on Sunday to make the copy and it worked this time (only 6 hours after finding a speedier command).
I even upgraded the kernel to support the full 160GB.
My TiVo now reports 193 hours of recording at basic quality!!!!!
Now I don't feel so bad about the 10 hours of childrens' programming that has taken over my TiVo for Eva.
